How to play Guess The Weight

Each round shows you one thing: an insect, a household object, an animal, a vehicle or a famous landmark. Your job is to guess how much it weighs, in grams. Type your number, press the arrow (or Enter), and the real weight appears together with your points for the round. Press Next for a new item. The items are shuffled every time you open the page, so no two games run in the same order.

Click on the picture to zoom in. The ⇄ button in the corner switches between a side-by-side and a stacked layout, which is handy on smaller screens.

Where the numbers come from

Every item uses a typical or average weight taken from public references such as encyclopedias, manufacturer specifications and natural history sources. Living things vary a lot between individuals, so treat animal weights as a sensible average for an adult rather than an exact rule. Pictures are loaded live from Wikipedia and belong to their respective authors under Wikimedia Commons licences.

Found a weight that looks wrong? Send it to me through the contact page and I will check it and fix it.

FAQ

Why grams instead of kilograms or pounds?

Grams let a flea (about 0.001 g) and the Great Pyramid of Giza (several million tonnes) sit on the same scale. Decimals are allowed, so you can type 0.5 for half a gram.

Is the weight of a vehicle with or without fuel?

Unless the item name says otherwise (for example “fueled” or “empty”), the game uses the empty or standard weight published for that model.

Do I need an account?

No. The game runs in your browser, there is nothing to sign up for, and your score resets when you leave the page.
